Tenova successfully commissioned a new Consteel® plant at Tokyo Steel in Tahara, Japan. Tokyo Steel equipped its new steel plant, which is going to produce 2.5 million metric tons/year of quality steel, with the 360-metric-ton/hour Consteel system. The new system has been coupled with an electric arc furnace of 300-metric-ton nominal tapping capacity and 420-metric-ton total capacity.
According to Tenova, Tokyo Steel will be able to produce high-quality flat steel with low electric consumption and achieve environmental advantages compared to a traditional top-charge furnace due to the continuous scrap feeding and preheating of Consteel technology. Tenova recently completed Consteel start-ups in Korea, China and Vietnam.
