Republic Engineered Products Inc., a subsidiary of Grupo Simec, acquired assets of BCS Industries consisting of a heat-treatment facility and cold-drawn steel bars. These facilities are located in Cleveland, Ohio, and Memphis, Tenn. With this acquisition, Republic enhances and complements its capacity production of special bars (SBQ).

Grupo Simec announced that its plants located in San Luis Potosi and Apizaco, Tlaxcala completed investment programs in their melt shops. The installed capacity at the San Luis Potosi plant increased to 1 million tons of billet for the production of rod, wire and derivatives. This investment also allows savings in energy costs. The installed capacity at the Apizaco, Tlaxcala plant increased to 5,000 tons of billet. With these investments, Simec now has more than 5 million tons of annual installed steel capacity in all of its plants.
