SMS Meer, a business area of the SMS Group, officially opened its new production site in Shanghai, China, on Oct. 28. The facility will manufacture complete machines for the Chinese market and components for customers around the world. SMS Meer’s engineering and design operations will continue to be based in Europe. According to SMS Meer, which invested approximately $30 million on the project, the Shanghai site will enhance the flexibility of its manufacturing operations.

SMS Meer Engineering China Ltd. employs 250 people. The new site also gives Chinese customers direct access to the complete SMS Meer range of services, from installation and commissioning to maintenance and modernization.
