Sivyer Steel Corp., a ferrous foundry in Bettendorf, Iowa, signed an agreement with the U.S. Army’s Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, the nation’s largest government-owned weapons manufacturing center. The parties will coordinate production capacity to make use of Sivyer’s capabilties for larger castings and Rock Island’s capabilties for smaller products. Sivyer Steel, which operates a foundry that has expertise in casting, molding, core making and machining, pours large steel castings. Rock Island, which is the Department of Defense’s only vertically integrated metal manufacturing operation, pours smaller steel castings.

According to officials, the collaboration will bring positive results for both parties, including the production of competitively priced, high-quality castings, reduced lead time and increased workload for the foundry. In signing the agreement, the organizations have expanded the capabilities they have to offer on both military and commercial fronts.
