Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) selected Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to design, engineer and supply the hot-rolling mill for ATI Allegheny Ludlum’s Brackenridge, Pa., advanced specialty-metals hot-rolling and processing facility. The new plant, which will cost approximately $1.16 billion and take four years to complete, will produce ATI’s flat-rolled titanium and titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys and specialty alloys, grain-oriented electrical steel and more.
The facility will include: a hot-rolling system with continuous variable crown and a 7-stand, 4-high finishing mill; an advanced walking-beam furnace, laminar cooling, and slab and plate handling; separating force over three times the current capability; and full automation with the best available controls technology.
