Outokumpu has officially opened a new stainless steel bar and rebar facility in Sheffield, U.K. The new plant, an investment of approximately $12 million, can supply stainless steel rebar in straight lengths or formed components as well as cold drawn bar. It also has the ability to process the company’s LDX2101 duplex grade into rebar, which can help provide a solution to the problem of corrosion in many reinforced concrete structures.
The new plant will allow Outokumpu to serve its U.K. long products customers from a production route that is completely integrated in Sheffield while helping the company broaden its product offering in the global marketplace. It will also enable Outokumpu to move into new downstream markets with a more complete product range.
