Nucor Steel Memphis, a division of Nucor Corp., will build a new 10,000-square-foot steel testing laboratory. The company plans to begin the $1.2 million project soon, with completion scheduled by the end of the third quarter. The lab will be used for physical, characteristic and microscopic testing to certify that the steel Nucor is producing will meet various global requirements and standards. The building where testing was being performed will now be used as a workshop for Nucor’s environmental department.

Nucor will move most of its existing test equipment into the new facility. The company will also bring in new equipment, including saw-cutting and machining technology and an overhead crane to move steel products from the mill to the lab.
