California Heating Equipment installed a solution heat-treating system at a West Coast-based aerospace fastener manufacturer’s plant. The system, which replaced a traditional belt furnace and water quench, has proven successful in eliminating surface “blistering” without introducing intergranular corrosion in small, thin fasteners and sleeves. The system also meets AMS 2750D and AMS 2770H requirements. The company replaced the belt-conveyor furnace in order to reduce the surface contamination on the fasteners caused by the migration of water vapor into the furnace from the quench chute.
