Vallourec plans to construct a new state-of-the-art small-diameter rolling mill in Youngstown, Ohio. The facility, which will initially produce 350,000 metric tons/year, will provide an annual nominal rolling capacity of 500,000 metric tons of seamless tubes. The project also includes heat-treatment and threading facilities. The investment will amount to $650 million, and operations are expected to begin by the fourth quarter of 2011. Approximately 350 new jobs will be created.
Vallourec says the decision to build the facility is supported by the long-term development of unconventional gas production in the U.S., which is increasing demand for small-diameter OCTG tubes. Construction is expected to begin next month. France’s Vallourec is a leader in premium tubular solutions, primarily serving the energy markets.
