Yichang Three Gorges of China placed an order with SMS Siemag for the supply of two continuous annealing lines. Drever International will supply two annealing furnaces, which will be powered with electricity instead of gas. Both annealing lines, which will process ultra-thin sheet, are designed for strips with a gauge of 0.14 to 0.4 mm and widths ranging from 1,000-1,250 mm. They each have an annual capacity of 350,000 tons. Commissioning of the first line is scheduled for May 2011, with the second line following a month later.
The preheating zones of the furnaces will be operated by heat recovered from the gas-cooling zones. The process speed in each furnace is 600 meters/minute, although 720 meters/minute can be reached in the entry section and 750 meters/minute in the exit section. Yichang Three Gorges is constructing a complete steel plant in the area of the Three Gorges Dam in Hubei province.
