New Industries started up a new post-weld heat-treat furnace with inside dimensions of 23 feet x 23 feet x 108 feet at its Morgan City, La., facility. The furnace is believed to be one of the largest in the United States. It is capable of performing post-weld heat treatment of large pressure vessels as well as a normalizing plate. Six 12.5-million BTU/hour natural-gas-fired burners provide heating for the furnace. New Industries fabricates large-diameter and heavy-wall pressure vessels.

New Industries’ waterfront facility enables it to load out large vessels and assemblies directly onto barges and offshore supply boats. Morgan City’s location allows efficient waterborne transportation via the Atchafalaya River eastbound and westbound through the Intracoastal Waterway and north to the Mississippi River.
