Graphite Paint
Dylon Grade E – a paint that leaves a coating of pure graphite on any surface – was originally developed for aerospace applications. The pure graphite crystals are suspended in a water carrier much like a latex paint. The dried slippery coating has found use as a release coating for molten metals at over 2000°F. It is an effective stop-off and anti-stick coating for splashed molten metals and welding spatter. The dried coating helps distribute heat more evenly over surfaces, prevents galling of rotating surfaces and is an effective mold and ingot wash.
