Alcoa announced that it has formed a strategic cooperation agreement with the People’s Government of Henan Province in China to jointly establish projects for the fabricated and primary aluminum industry. Henan is located in central China and is the nation’s largest producer of nonferrous metals. Under the agreement, Alcoa will work with Henan as a strategic ally on identifying value-adding projects for alumina, primary-aluminum and aluminum-fabrication facilities. The Henan government will provide support for resource allocation, energy supply, development plans and policies.
Henan Province has abundant mineral resources with 107 varieties discovered. Its bauxite reserves, which total more than 960 million metric tons, are the second largest in China. It is also the home to 14 primary-aluminum smelters, with a total capacity of 1.3 million tons annually, and seven alumina refineries.
