Wellman Products Group (WPG) has contracted Process-Electronic (Montreal, Quebec) to supply controller packages for four nitriding furnaces. This order follows the successful installation of a Protherm 400 programmable controller at WPG’s Tulsa, Okla., facility. During the initial phase, the product first-pass yield improved to 98% and the redesigned process shortened the cycle time by 60%. In addition, the new control solution reduced process-gas consumption and eliminated an expensive catalyst needed to carry out the previous nitriding operation.
The follow-up order includes Protherm 400 controllers, hydrogen analyzers and pre-programmed nitriding processes. It also included non-typical recipes for a combination of nitriding and sintering processes.
