Can-Eng Furnaces International recently completed the replacement of a 120-foot-long water-cooled roller-hearth section on a 15,000-pound/hour tube normalizing furnace at an American-based mechanical-tube production facility. The furnace operates under dry exothermic gas for the normalizing process. The new equipment incorporated a number of material and design improvements over previous installations.
The improvements will ensure both long service life and access to the roller-hearth interior via a removable roof that utilizes a unique roof-to-sidewall seal. The removal of the old cooling sections and installation of the new equipment was undertaken over a short-duration scheduled shutdown, and the new equipment was up and running within seven days.
