ECM USA (Kenosha, Wis.) has installed two large vacuum-carburizing furnace systems at Daimler Truck Axles North America (Redford, Mich.). Each of the two furnace systems has eight heating cells for carburizing and one 20-bar gas-quench chamber for hardening. An automated load/unload system, pre-wash, temper furnace and a data-retrieval system are included for the entire operation.

The furnaces are designed for heat treating heavy-duty ring gear and pinion sets for Daimler Truck, a supplier of medium and heavy-duty axles to the trucking industry. All of the equipment was built and tested at ECM in Grenoble, France.
