ThyssenKrupp Steel has awarded SMS Demag an order for a hot strip mill and a cold rolling complex. The plants are destined for Alabama, where ThyssenKrupp is building a new stainless-steel processing facility. The hot strip mill covers the entire production range for all grades from carbon to stainless steel and is designed for annual production of 5.4 million metric tons. Completion is scheduled for March 2010.
German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp will build a $3.7 billion state-of-the-art carbon-steel and stainless-steel processing facility on the Tombigbee River, approximately 25 miles north of Mobile, Ala. The carbon-steel portion of the new facility will have an annual capacity of 4.1 million metric tons of carbon steel end products. Construction is set to start in early 2008.
