Latrobe Specialty Steel has announced a major expansion of its Latrobe, Pa.-based vacuum remelting facility for the production of high-alloy specialty steels. The expansion begins with the construction of a 60,000-square-foot facility near the company’s Latrobe headquarters. The new plant will house the company’s expanded vacuum induction melting and vacuum arc remelting operations. According to Latrobe Specialty Steel, vacuum melting capacity will triple and commercial production should begin by the end of the year. The expansion is expected to create 95 new jobs.

Latrobe Specialty Steel also plans to expand its finishing operations and service center in Sandy Creek Township, Venango County (Pa.), to accommodate a new finishing line to serve aerospace customers. This expansion is expected to create 12 new jobs.
