Nucleus LLC is providing a primary melting manufacturing execution system (MES) to Carpenter Technology Corp. that will bring together the Level 2 control functions of the existing EAF and vacuum induction melting systems (VIM) facilities as well as the new VIM furnace currently under construction at Carpenter’s Reading, Pa., facility. Through the MES, Carpenter will have real-time process monitoring and data-reporting capabilities throughout the primary melting process.

The MES will replace several legacy systems related to execution, control and data acquisition with one integrated system across the primary melting activities. According to Nucleus, Carpenter’s manufacturing operations will be improved through the use of the MES.
