BTU International, Inc. announced the receipt of a $1.9 million order for a walking-beam furnace from a leading manufacturer of nuclear fuel in China. The furnace will be used for the sintering of nuclear fuel pellets. BTU’s walking-beam furnace is a high-temperature (up to 1800°C) thermal-processing system designed for handling heavy loads under precisely controlled temperatures and atmospheric conditions.

The system includes a number of BTU’s proprietary technologies, including variable-density refractory components, eductor technology and the walking-beam mechanism. BTU has operations in North Billerica, Mass., and Shanghai, China.
