Siemens Metal Technologies received an order from Rotem, a company of the Hyundai Motor Group, for the supply of three two-strand slab casters. The equipment is for the new integrated iron and steelworks project of Hyundai Steel Company, Korea’s largest electric steel producer. The casters will be installed at the steel producer’s Dangjin Works and are scheduled for start-up in late 2009.
Siemens will supply its continuous casting technology and the related engineering and key components for the casters, which will have a combined annual casting capacity of 8.4 million tons of steel. The slabs will be cast in thicknesses of 225 and 250 mm and at widths ranging from 800-2,200 mm. The cast steel grades will include ultra-low-carbon to high-carbon steels as well as micro-alloyed steels.
