Mechel OAO (Russia) has entered an agreement with Danieli for the modernization of Mechel’s steel operations at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (CMP), Mechel’s major steel-producing subsidiary. As part of the agreement, Danieli will re-equip CMP’s electric arc furnace No. 6 and modernize its continuous caster to increase productivity to 1.2 million metric tons of slabs per year. Danieli will also commission a ladle furnace and a vacuum vessel.
The implementation of this project will allow Mechel to increase its output of stainless and construction steel products, improve quality and reduce production costs. Over the past three years, Mechel and Danieli have collaborated on projects that included two continuous casting machines, both of which produce 1 million metric tons per year.
