Danieli Centro Met will supply a complete new meltshop for Tokyo Steel to be installed at the Tahara Plant. The new steelmaking and refining facility will include all equipment and auxiliary services needed to produce up to 2.6 million metric tons per year of low- and ultra-low carbon and Al-killed grades. The facility will feed a slab caster and flat rolling mill. Start-up is scheduled for the second half of 2009.
The meltshop will feature a 420-metric-ton EAF that Danieli describes as the largest and most powerful EAF ever built. The twin-electrode DC EAF will be equipped with the Consteel® system under an exclusive agreement between Danieli and Tenova. The EAF will also be equipped with multiple-point oxygen and carbon injectors.
