Nucor Steel has placed an order with SMS Meer (Italy) for the supply and commission of a reheating furnace for its facility in Darlington, S.C.

Nucor Steelhas placed an order withSMS Meer(Italy) for the supply and commission of a reheating furnace for its facility in Darlington, S.C. The pusher furnace has a capacity of 120 short tons/hour and will be used to heat 7-inch x 7-inch square billets 20 feet to 35 feet long. Commissioning of the furnace is scheduled for the end of 2007.

The design of the furnace, which uses composite refractory material together with high-quality skid-pipe lining, ensures high thermal efficiency. SMS Meer's scope of supply includes the charging equipment, the complete furnace steel construction, the burner and combustion system, refractory and insulation materials, discharge facilities and hydraulic systems.
