Solar Manufacturing (Souderton, Pa.) announced the receipt of a contract from the United States Department of Energy for a Model HFL-2624-EQ vacuum heat-treating furnace. The furnace, which is valued at $252,000, will be shipped to the National Energy Tech Lab-Albany in Albany, Ore. It has a work hot zone of 18 inches wide x 14 inches high x 26 inches deep, will hold a capacity of 500 pounds and will operate to 2500°F with an ultimate furnace vacuum in the low 10-6 Torr range.

The hot zone will use high-efficiency insulation and operate with an efficiency of less than 5 watts per square inch. Full electronic furnace control is provided with a Honeywell Model DCP551 programmable controller, an Allen Bradley Micrologix 1500 PLC and a Eurotherm Graphic Digital Display Recorder.
