Core Furnace Systems (Coraopolis, Pa.) has been contracted to engineer, supply and commission the major equipment for a 160-ton, twin-tank vacuum degasser at IPSCO Steel's Montpelier, Iowa, facility. The vacuum degasser will allow IPSCO to produce higher quality low-hydrogen steel for plate. Start-up is expected in early 2007.

The main features of the new vacuum degasser facility include a steam generation plant, steam jet ejectors, vacuum tanks, an advanced process control system and an inline filtration system. Core Furnace Systems supplies and designs vacuum degassing systems, melt shop equipment, heat-treating and carbon-processing furnaces, and process control and automation systems.
