The Mitsubishi International COREFLUX process team, Wixom, MI, has completed installation and validation of a laser weld preheating system for a Daimler Chrysler facility in Stuttgart, Germany. The COREFLUX Mark 4 system operates without water cooling, without a rotational spindle, and without a large variety of complicated and expensive tooling dedicated to individual parts. The system enables an entire range of gears to be heated to a higher degree of temperature uniformity with no tooling changes using minimal electrical utility.
