Riva Acciaio S.p.A., Lesegno, Italy, has taken delivery of a Gleeble thermal mechanical physical simulation system from Dynamic Systems Inc., Poestenkill, N.Y., for further enhancing the efficiency and quality of mill operations in all aspects of steel production. Applications planned for the system include melting and controlled solidification studies, SICO (Strain Induced Crack Opening) testing, dilatometry studies, hot workability investigations and strip annealing simulations for carbon and alloyed steels. The Gleeble 380 can heat specimens at 10,000 C/sec, exerting 20 tons maximum force and working specimens at 2000 mm/sec. maximum stroke rate.
