Hydro Aluminum, based in Oslo, Norway, signed an alumina supply contract with Comalco in Australia. Under the agreement, starting with a volume of 300,000 tons in 2005, Comalco will supply Hydro Aluminum with 500,000 tons of alumina annually from 2006 through 2030. The agreement allows for volume increases at different stage during the duration of the contract. Hydro Aluminum plans to use the alumina to secure future supply to its Australian operations, which include Kurri Kurri aluminum smelter and the Tomago aluminum smelter, both in New South Wales, Australia. Comalco will supply alumina for this contract through its 39% share in Queensland Alumina Limited's refinery and its new Comalco Alumina Refinery, due to makes its first shipment in 2005, both based in Gladstone, Australia.
