Alumina Silica Insulation TYPE Z-500 has a nominal bulk density of 50 pcf (800 kg/m3), a composition of approximately 60% SiO2 40% Al2O3 and an average surface hardness of 93 on the A scale. It exhibits 0.65% shrinkage after 24 hours at 800 C (1470 F) and is free of organics. It is prefired and does not outgas upon heating. It is fully compatible with silica, alumina and boron nitride coatings. The material can be precision machined to customer-specified geometries because it has uniform hardness and density throughout its thickness.
