The high radiant energy, molybdenum, multi-strand wire heating element for vacuum furnaces is designed to heat tooling and other production work loads, for example, age harden stainless steel 17-4PH, in a full vacuum (1 x 10-6 Torr or less) in the low radiance energy level, below 1100YêF (593YêC). Temperature control is with a Type S ceramic sheath thermocouple and a Honeywell Model 550 programmer/controller. Optimization of the Honey-well PID loop constants is via the "auto tune" feature of the Honeywell programmer/controller, after stabilization at 800YêF (426YêC). These single constants are then automatically downloaded and utilized throughout the full temperature range with sold on-line temperature control achieved.
