Construction has begun at California Steel Industries, Fontana, CA, for the second phase of a batch annealing consolidation project. This second phase includes twelve hydrogen annealing bases purchased from Rad-Con, Inc., Cleveland, OH, and is scheduled to be in full operation starting in August 2001. The first phase was completed in August 2000, and includes eight Rad-Con hydrogen annealing bases. When completed, this 20 base facility will produce 360,000 tons/year of commercial, drawing, and physical quality grades. Complete information system automation is being supplied by Rad-Con through Entec Systems International, including online thermal modeling and coil scheduling optimization.
