The Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Metlab, Wyndmoor, PA, to participate in its "BestPractices" Program. According to OIT, Metlab has been awarded a grant of $100,000 based upon demonstrated technical proficiency and core competency in the implementation of a comprehensive plant-wide systems approach to increase energy efficiency and reduce environmental emissions. One of seven companies selected to participate in the program nationwide, Metlab, with the assistance of CSGI, Inc. and Energy Research Company, will evaluate the productivity, energy savings, emissions, and waste reduction issues facing the heat treatment industry. This will be carried out using a plant-wide assessment of the processes carried out at the Metlab facilities in Wyndmoor. The output will be the selection of productivity improvement methods and approaches to reduction of energy and emissions in heat treat companies. The study is to be completed in the summer of 2001.
