The heating element/radiant tube package increases high-temperature performance of electric furnaces. Bayonet heating elements and tubes are fabricated from an Fe/Cr/Al APM alloy developed by Kanthal Corp., and distributed in North America by Custom Electric. When used together, these products can reduce furnace operating costs. APM alloy heating elements can tolerate temperatures up to 2600 F (1430 C), and the tube/element package provides 2 to 4 times longer service life than Ni/Cr products. Other benefits include a higher maximum operating temperature, longer service life, higher surface loading, higher resistivity, lower density and the ability to resist spalling, thermal and mechanical shock, creep deformation and carburization.
