Roger Jones, corporate president of Solar Atmospheres Inc. (Souderton, Pa.) has been elected president of the Metal Treating Institute (MTI), an international trade association representing the corporate heat-treating industry. Jones previously served in all elected offices of the Institute at both the international and local levels and most recently was conference chair for Furnaces North America 2004. At the MTI Annual Meeting in Nashville, the Board of Trustees also elected Mary Wiberg Springer, vice president of Therm-Tech of Waukesha (Waukesha, Wis.) as international vice president/president-elect and John Reger, president of Winston Heat Treating (Dayton, Ohio) as treasurer. Norman Graves, president of National Metal Processing was presented the Institute's highest award, The Heritage Award. Gary Huss of Hudapack Metal Treating received the MTI Award of Merit; Horace Knerr of Metlab received the Distinguished Service Award (posthumously); Jeffrey Uhlenburg of Donovan Heat Treating Co. received the President's Award and Bill Bernard of Surface Combustion received the Associate Member of the Year Award. Industrial Heating Magazine, in cooperation with MTI, awarded the ninth annual Master Craftsman Award to VAC AERO International, Oakville, Ontario, Canada. VAC AERO was awarded a plaque and $1,500 to be used as an education scholarship in material sciences or heat treatment. Bill Potts and Jeff Pritchard of VAC AERO accepted the award.
