Retech Services, Inc., Ukiah, CA, has been awarded a contract to engineer and build a large plasma hearth melting furnace for VSMPO (Verkhnaya Salda Metallurgical Production Association) located in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia. The furnace, currently in production at Retech, will have the capacity to produce 8 million pounds of titanium per year, with 5,100 kilowatts of power. The furnace will house five plasma torches and will feed bars up to 30" diameter and 87" long, weighing 5 tons (4.5 metric tons). In addition, scrap material can also be produced.
