Robotron-Elotherm, Southfield, MI, a company of Elotherm GmbH, has expanded its research and development facility from 2,500 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft. The induction hardening area of the lab has a dual spindle scanner with lift and rotate capabilities, and full scan area of up to 45" in length. A press quench machine is used for heat treating races and gears for distortion control. There are also seven bonding/brazing machines. The metallurgical area includes a metallograph, a microhardness tester, Rockwell and superficial hardness testers, sample mounting and preparation equipment, macro- and micro-etching booths, a Magnaflux magnetic particle inspection (MPI) machine, and water-cooled cutoff equipment.
