Hydro Aluminum North America has committed to an $11 million investment to upgrade its remelt facility in Ellenville, N.Y. When the two-step expansion is completed by the end of 2004, Ellenville will have a remelt capacity of around 60,000 tons. The first phase of the upgrade will be complete by the end of 2003 and will include improvements to infrastructure (e.g. scrap handling facility) and a new Hycast high-density gas cushion casting unit. The second phase, to be complete by the end of 2004, includes new homogenization, combustion units and automated sawing and material handling.
