(Norwalk, Conn.), the global market for all types of materials characterization instruments, which includes instruments used in the chemical characterization of materials, morphological characterization and physical/mechanical characterization, is currently estimated at $21.8 billion. This market is expected to reach $31.7 billion in 2009, as it grows at an AAGR (average annual growth rate) of 7.8% between 2004 and 2009. Applications of these instruments include failure analysis, corrosion/wear testing, biocompatibility testing, thin films/coatings analysis, contaminant analysis, process control and quality control.
