Lovejoy Sintered Technologies (Downers Grove, Ill.; http://www.lovejoy-inc.com), a new business unit formed under the Lovejoy Inc. global corporate umbrella, recently installed a powder metal press that uses digital technology to measure powder metal by weight, enabling precision measurements consistent within ±0.04 g, regardless of part size. Once the powder is accurately measured and introduced to the press, a special technique fluidizes the powder, offering uniform distribution of the powder throughout the mold for more uniform density and increased structural strength. During compaction, the new press is said to produce density levels approaching those of materials made of bar stock and forgings.
