Can-Eng Furnaces Ltd. (Niagara Falls, N.Y.; http://www.can-eng.com) engineered, installed and commissioned a 70-ton car-bottom furnace at Atlas Tube Inc. (Harrow, Ontario, Canada). The guillotine door style system performs a stress-relieving cycle on Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) made to Canadian Specification G40.21 50W or Metric 350W Class H. The car deck is capable of holding tubular product up to 70 ft long with a chamber height and width of 14 by 12 ft. Thermal input is provided by a series of Eclipse TJ high velocity burners arranged in a manner to promote maximum stirring with the tight temperature uniformity. The system is controlled by a multifunctional HMI/temperature controller/PLC. Considerable amounts of square and rectangular tubing manufactured by Atlas Tube were incorporated into the shell re-enforcement door and furnace car.
