The C-clamp kit for the Pin Brinell has a capacity of six inches and enables testing on smaller or thinner parts, as well as in awkward testing situations where the standard tester cannot operate. To test a part, a shear pin is inserted into the indenter holder and the indenter holder is placed in the C-clamp. The load is applied by clamping the tester to the part and tightened until the shear pin breaks. As the operator is tightening the clamp, the back end of the indentor is forced against the shear pin. When the maximum predetermined test force for the shear pin is reached, it breaks, thereby establishing the correct load on the indenter.
