The Indian Steel Company Bhushan Limited has selected Techint (Milan, Italy; http://www.techint-technologies.com) for the design, engineering and supply of the new meltshop to be erected next year in Orissa Province (India). The meltshop will be able to produce up to 2 million tons of steel through a modular set of furnaces, which comprises four 90-ton electric arc furnaces (EAF) and four ladle furnaces (LF) of the same size. The EAFs have been designed to utilize DRI and up to 30% of hot metal charging in order to speed up the melting cycle and the aim to reach a target of high steel quality. The meltshop will be synchronized downstream with a new SMS Demag CSP Caster. The LFs will be provided with a controlled atmosphere roof. Commissioning of the first set of equipment has been targeted within the end of year 2005.
