Solar Atmospheres Inc., Souderton, PA, has recently installed a vacuum furnace with processing capabilities up to 3632¯F (2000¯C). Applications processed in the 12" x 12" x 35" furnace include stress relieving of molybdenum (moly) weldments, high temperature sintering of moly and ruthenium, and TiC or SiC coatings of graphite parts. Furnace capabilities include vacuum levels of 1 x 10-5 Torr. Partial pressure operating atmospheres are available in nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen from 0.5 Torr to 50 Torr in flowing gas. Furnace temperature is controlled by Type C thermocouples and a Honeywell Model 550 microprocessor-based programmer/controller.
