Olson Industries (Heidelberg, Pa.) received an order for a heat treatment line from a manufacturer of industrial knife blades in upstate New York. The line includes a walking hearth furnace, automated charging machine, dual oil quench tanks and an automated robot to unload the furnace, move the pieces to the quench elevator, unload the pieces from the quench tanks and move them to a cooling table. The gas-fired furnace is designed to operate at a temperature range of 1800 to 2000ºF. The equipment, including the robot, will be completely automated using a PLC system. Olson will fabricate and assemble the equipment in its McKees Rocks, Pa. facility, and will install and commission the system in November 2005.
