No. 854 electrically heated, inert-atmosphere floor furnace has a maximum operating temperature of 2200F (1200C) and maximum workspace dimensions of 24 in. wide x 48 in. deep x 24 in. high (610 x 1220 x 610 mm). Total power of 53 kW is available through heavy-gauge Kanthal AF alloy wire. The furnace features 9 in. (230 mm) insulated walls, consisting of 4.5 in. (114 mm) thick 2600F (1430C) firebrick, 2.5 in. (64 mm) thick 2300F (1260C) firebrick, and 2 in. (13 mm) thick block insulation. A firebrick plate hearth is supported on firebrick piers. An electrically operated vertical lift door having a remote foot pedal control is provided. Other features include a continuously welded outer shell, high-temperature door gasket, sealed heater terminal boxes, inert atmosphere inlet, and outlet and flowmeter.
