Pressure Technology, Inc., Warminster, PA, has designed and installed a HIP Unit #5 to double capacity for hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and improve processing efficiency. The unit has a chamber diameter of 30 in. and a 69 in. length and can accommodate larger parts, such as land-based turbine blades, power billets, and structural parts for aerospace. The unit also can process a larger quantity of materials in a single cycle, thereby permitting cost-effective processing. The unit has a pressure capability of 25,000 psi (170 MPa) and a temperature operating range up to 2450ÝF (1340ÝC). The high-pressure capability, combined with the larger size, presents new opportunities for design engineers and also enables the company to expand services for casting densification, diffusion bonding, HIP brazing, and powder consolidation.
