American Axle & Manufacturing Awarded Driveline Systems Contact
American Axle and Manufacturing (AAM) Holdings Inc., Detroit, Mich., has been awarded a contract to produce all-wheel-drive front and rear-axle systems and front end rear driveshafts for a future General Motors (GM) light-duty Sport Utility Truck (SUT). The aluminum front axle system was specifically designed for mass reduction and longer life. The PowerDenseT rear axle system is smaller, lighter and stronger than previous or competitive systems and features an electronic vehicle stability system with speed sensors at each axle shaft, as well as an electronic locking differential. The front and rear driveshafts provide a weight advantage and incorporate AAM's Gen II U-joint designs.
