Cincinnati Inc. Designs and Installs 1,650-Ton Hybrid Powdered Metal Press
Cincinnati Inc. built and installed a hybrid powdered metal press for GKN Sinter Metals at its Salem, Ind., plant. The 1650-DCII-8 die change compacting press combines the advantages of mechanical and hydraulic technologies into one machine. GKN plans to use the machine to make larger automotive components, as the machine is designed to process large complex parts at high production rates and execute faster changeovers than other machines available in this tonnage range. The machine has a pressing capacity of 1,650 U.S. tons (14,650 kN) and includes a fill depth of 8 in. (230 mm) over all lower levels and a press speed range of 6 to 12 strokes per minute. As designed, the press has capability to produce complex parts with up to 8 levels.
