The KastechR ultra process is designed to remove shell and coring from difficult-to-clean castings. The process can remove low silica/low reactivity ceramic compositions and leach-fused quartz and preformed coring from intricate castings. The salt bath operates at temperatures from 850 to 1300F (455 to 705C), which makes it applicable for cleaning steels, stainless steels, superalloys and copper alloys without attacking the substrate material. Simple castings having a minimal amount of reactive ceramic can be 100% cleaned in as little as ten minutes. Complex investment castings can take slightly longer, but are 100% cleaned in a single immersion cycle. The process is widely used by the aerospace industry and by companies that produce castings to meet MIL specifications.
